Rebel Projects: Mood Board, Website ct designlab Projects: Brand Guide, Brochure Industry Legal Projects Mood Board, Website Brand Guide, Brochure Agency Rebel Interactive ct designlab Role Lead UX/UI Designer Lead Designer Add Portfolio / Carmody Carmody Carmody | Torrance | Sandak | Hennessey LLP is one of Connecticut's leading law firms with a focus on excellence and cost-effective legal services. Carmody is a mid-size law firm with offices in five locations throughout Connecticut. REBEL INTERACTIVE AGENCY PROJECTS Website + Mood Board The Ask I led the UX/UI design for the redesign of Carmodylaw.com, an 80+ page, content-rich website providing detailed information about the firm. In addition, I developed a mood board to guide the site's updated visual direction. The mood board established the style for typography, photography, and the color palette. The client felt the previous Carmody site was too bold, with excessive orange from the logo, and didn’t reflect the firm accurately. They hired Rebel to create a more sophisticated, polished design, both visually and technically. Given the site's size and complexity, careful planning was essential. I created high-fidelity wireframes to streamline the UI design process and annotated designs with a style sheet for developers. After development, I played a key role in the QA process through to launch. This project was a significant effort, taking six months to finalize, build, QA, and launch. Process Mood Board Website Design carmodylaw.com Wireframes figma file figma file Prototype Result The result of this project was a more refined and sophisticated website that accurately represented the firm’s brand and professionalism. The mood board set a clear direction for the typography, photography, and color palette, ensuring a cohesive and polished aesthetic. The high-fidelity wireframes and detailed style sheet streamlined the design-to-development handoff, making the process efficient despite the site’s complexity. After six months of development, QA, and refinement, the new Carmody site successfully launched, providing a visually engaging, user-friendly experience that aligned with the firm's vision and improved its online presence. CT DESIGNLAB PROJECTS Brand Guide + Brochure The Ask The Brand Guide details the work done on the mood board and website, ensuring consistency in the firm’s identity. A new brochure was also created to provide key information about the firm, designed for prospective clients. Process I designed the Brand Guide and brochure in a square format to reflect the logomark, creating a cohesive visual identity. Having established a strong foundation with the mood board, the designs were both exciting and efficient to execute. The Brand Guide included typography, color palettes, logo usage, and imagery guidelines, ensuring consistency across all materials. Carmody Brand Guide The Result The result of designing the Brand Guide and brochure was a cohesive and professional visual identity for the firm. The Brand Guide provided clear guidelines for typography, color usage, and logo application, ensuring consistency across all platforms. The brochure effectively communicated key information to prospective clients, reinforcing the firm's brand while delivering a polished, engaging presentation. Both materials helped establish a strong, unified presence that reflected the firm's values and expertise. Single-fold brochure

  • The Gilded Swallow | ct designlab

Projects: UX/UI Jewelry & Accessories E-commerce Website Add Portfolio / The Gilded Swallow The Gilded Swallow Industry Jewelry Projects Jewelry & Accessories E-commerce Website Agency ct designlab Role Lead UX Designer, UX Researcher, UI Designer UX/UI Design The Gilded Swallow is a team of Designers that make handmade jewelry and accessories. They are passionate about their creations that they feel are works of art. The swallow used in their logo represents freedom, grace, and the ability to soar above challenges. The Gilded Swallow uses sustainable materials and donates 5% of their proceeds to the Autism Society. The Story Design a jewelry and accessories e-commerce website that offers a multitude of category sorting options, an account registration that enables users to save their favorite products, and provide detailed information about the materials used. Challenge The Gilded Swallow website allows users to create an account to save their favorite products while enabling comprehensive search and sorting functions. Detailed material information is provided to help users choose items that won't trigger allergies. Solution .01 Understanding the User User research Personas & Problem statements Empathy maps User journey maps Competitor Analysis UX Research figma file My user research entailed interviewing users who have purchased handmade jewelry that included: Conducting interviews Creating personas User stories Empathy maps User journeys Competitor analysis From my research, it was clear that users wanted to be able to: Create an account to save their favorites and payment information Favorite jewelry they liked so that they could purchase it later View the jewelry by categories, such as metal type and style Find out more about the materials I interviewed a small group of people to understand the kind of people that frequently buy jewelry and accessories. I wanted to have an initial understanding of the personas to focus on. PERSONAS Identifying the problems that users face is indeed crucial for creating a user-centered experience. Starting with clear problem statements for the primary personas and using the "who, what, when, where, why, and how" framework enables a solid understanding of the challenges users were encountering. PROBLEM STATEMENTS Laura is a busy mom who needs to be able to create and account and save her favorite items so she can purchase them at another time. LAURA KATE Kate is a Designer who needs to see metal types when she’s buying jewelry online because she has a skin allergy to certain metals. Reviewing the pain points provided me insight into what needed to be included in the new website. PAIN POINTS 1. Account & Favorites Some users were unable to create an account. This hindered the user from viewing their selected favorites to make future purchases. 3. Sorting & Filters Many users found the navigation, filters, and product sorting to be inconsistent which made it hard for them to find an item they wanted. 2. Product Information Many users found there was not enough detailed information about the items, such as materials and images of the products being used. I created empathy maps to better understand the users' pain points. EMPATHY MAPS I also a created user journey maps to dig deeper into each stage that the users go through when buying jewelry. USER JOURNEYS My competitor analysis helped identify industry standards, opportunities for innovation, and make informed design decisions to create a more competitive and user-friendly product. COMPETITOR ANALYSIS Competitors Lisa Leonard Designs (Direct) Pura Vida (Direct) Lucky Brand (Indirect) Kendra Scott (Indirect) Competitive Audit Goal Identify key jewelry designer competitors and review the products they offer for The Gilded Swallow, a jewelry website Gaps Identified Lisa Leonard Designs : Does not offer user favorites option Pura Vida : User favorites are not readily accessible Lucky Brand : Category options are limited and not user friendly Kendra Scott : Mega menu overwhelming & user favorites not easily accessible Opportunities Identified Create favorites option and use an icon to access favorites in header Modify design of mega menu on desktop to be easier to read Use more white space around products (use Gestalt Principles) Add more category options Organize category hierarchy to meet the users needs .02 Starting the Design Site map User Flow Storyboards Paper wireframes Digital wireframes Low-fidelity prototype Usability study Affinity map UX Design figma file For the UX design, I created a site map , user flows , and storyboards to structure the website, followed by paper and digital wireframes. I then built a low-fidelity prototype , conducted a usability study , and used an affinity map to organize insights for refinement. In order to visualize how individual webpages or site sections are related to each other, I designed a site map . SITE MAP I created user flows to visualize how a user would navigate making a purchase. I did this to make sure my site map was correct and to flush out the full user experience. USER FLOW I created story boards to empathize with users, visualize the user journey, and communicate my vision effectively. STORY BOARDS Drawing the paper wireframes helped me to flush out the layouts and got me to think more about the elements I wanted to include. I placed icons for the user’s account and favorites in the header which was an important need from my user research. PAPER WIREFRAMES I created digital wireframes to determine the logical flow between pages and screens and made adjustments from initial feedback. When I designed the digital wireframes, I thought deeply about the hierarchy of information and included the most important elements from my user research. DIGITAL WIREFRAMES figma file As I was building my digital wireframes, I used Gestalt Principles . Gestalt Principles are laws of human perception that describe how our brain groups similar elements, recognizes patterns, and simplifies complex images when we perceive objects. As UX/UI Designers, we use Gestalt Principles to organize content on websites and other interfaces so it is easy to understand and aesthetically pleasing. The 3 laws of Gestalt Principles are: 1. Similarity This is when elements that look alike (in shape, size, or color, for instance) are perceived to have the same function. 3. Common Region This is when elements located within the same closed area are perceived to be grouped together. 2. Proximity This is when elements that are close together appear to be more related than things that are spaced farther apart. I designed a low-fidelity prototype to visualize the site design in the early stages to make any necessary improvements before designing the UI. LOW-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE figma file I created a usability study to observe how real users interact with the product to identify any challenges, pain points and common themes. This helps me understand whether the interface is intuitive, efficient, and easy to navigate, ensuring the design meets user needs, improves satisfaction, and enhances overall usability. USABILITY STUDY AFFINITY MAP Upon completing the usability study, I created an affinity map to organize the modifications I needed to make for the final designs. I categorized the data into 4 groups: Navigation, Products, Account, and Purchasing. I then sorted the notes by priority to determine what needed to be modified first within the site. .03 Finalizing the Design High-fidelity prototype Accessibility UI Design Using my affinity map, I made key modifications based on the highest-priority items. I then conducted a final review, gathering feedback from colleagues that led me to refine the hero section further, making slight adjustments to its organization and visual impact. HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE I created a high-fidelity prototype to closely simulate the final product, allowing me to test functionality, gather accurate user feedback, and refine the design before development. figma file ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS 1 Color I used a high color contrast for all of the text and buttons to improve readability for all users 2 Typography I chose sans serif fonts and maintained consistent spacing throughout the website 3 Iconography I made sure the icons were clickable so it would be easy for users to make their selections 4 Hierarchy I organized the menus, product items and categories so the navigation would be consistent 5 Spacing Friendships I separated and grouped elements to make it easy to determine each individual section 6 Style I chose typography, colors, icons, and buttons that would be inclusive and accessible .04 Going Forward Impact Next Steps Takeaways & Next Steps After finishing the UI design, I’ll hand it off to developers. The product will then be built, tested, and launched. Post-launch, we’ll monitor the impact through user feedback to guide updates and improvements. IMPACT The impact of my designs will compete in the market, improve sales, and maintain customer satisfaction which is the goal I set from the outset. The design showcases the jewelry well and makes it simple to find and view the items to be able to complete the purchase. NEXT STEPS I will continue to take the findings from the feedback and work on the following: Continued Research Research more competitors, create competitor audits and analysis to continue to identify gaps and opportunities. Research not only helps us to better understand the user, but also helps us to stay competitive in the market and maintain customer satisfaction. Accessibility Enhancements Make the site fully accessible for users with special needs. It’s pleasing to see more and more websites focusing on accessibility. The next step would be to find a widget that could be integrated into the website so that we are including special needs users. Additional Usability Studies Conduct more usability studies to continue to enhance the user experience. It’s an ongoing process because more products may be added to the website and also the user needs can change depending on how web development continues to grow.

  • KAMAS Karate | ct designlab

Projects: Identity, Branding, Website, Marketing Brochure Add Portfolio / KAMAS Karate KAMAS Karate Industry Martial Arts Projects Identity, Branding, Website , Marketing Brochure Agency ct designlab Role Lead Designer KAMAS Karate is a Martial Arts studio that provides instruction for kids, teens and adults. They teach American Tang Soo Do, Mixed Martial Arts & Self Defense. The owner, Master James King, has been teaching Tang Soo Do for over 20 years. My son and daughter were both students of KAMAS during their early school years. Since I was a blackbelt (in Design), I offered to help Master King with the KAMAS website. This lead to updating the logo, designing a brochure as well as the American Tang Soo Do Association's manual. My kids moved on to other activities, but their experience was invaluable. Website, Identity, Branding + Marketing Materials The Ask Master King asked me to refresh his existing logo and build a cohesive brand based on the new website design. The goal for the website was to create a user-friendly platform that highlighted classes, instructor bios, schedules, and included a photo gallery. Process The process began with updating existing KAMAS Karate logo to give it a fresh look while maintaining its original essence. Once the logo was finalized, I developed a brand identity that would seamlessly integrate with the new website. For the site, I focused on creating an intuitive user experience, organizing class offerings, instructor bios, schedules, and a photo gallery. I ensured the design was clean and easy to navigate, allowing users to quickly find the information they needed. After several rounds of revisions and feedback, the brand and website were finalized, delivering a cohesive and professional online presence. Identity + Branding Website Design kamaskarate.com TANG SOO BLUE #293554 DYNASTY PURPLE #683864 TANG SOO RED #293554 PUREST WHITE #293554 Logo Enhancement When I began the website design, the original logo text was outdated and a vector version was not available. I recreated the logo in Illustrator, presenting Master King with a modern font and a circular emblem design. I envisioned the new logo to fit perfectly as a patch for a Gi (karate uniform). Marketing Brochure Based on the KAMAS logo that contains navy and purple, I enhanced the website by adding red, a common color seen throughout martial arts. Red symbolizes a setting sun and represents strength, passion, and power. That seemed pretty appropriate for a Tang Soo Do studio! Print is not dead in a karate studio! Many people still stop by KAMAS to check out the studio and receive this lovely, glossy tri-fold brochure. I used the same style and colors as I designed on the website to stay on brand. The Result The result was a refreshed logo, a cohesive brand, and a professionally designed marketing brochure that aligned with Master King's vision. The new website was user-friendly and visually appealing, effectively showcasing class offerings, instructor profiles, schedules, and a photo gallery. The marketing brochure reinforced the brand's message and offered a polished way to present key information. Together, the updated site and brochure created an engaging experience for potential clients and helped elevate the brand’s online and offline presence.

The app is rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which integrates four core strategies: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. The goal was to develop a user-friendly app that provides quick and effective tools to reduce emotional stress in day-to-day life. Project Overview The Challenge In today's fast-paced world, many people struggle to find time and effective methods to manage stress. The challenge was to design an app that could provide simple, accessible activities to help users quickly regain emotional balance, without overwhelming them with too much information or complex features. Projects: Brandscape, Brand Book — Agency: Rebel Add Portfolio / Oma's Pride Oma's Pride Industry Pet Food Projects Brandscape, Brand Book Agency Rebel Interactive Role Lead Designer Oma’s Pride is a complete line of natural pet food products made expressly for people feeding raw diets to their pets. Oma's Pride products have been manufactured in and distributed from their USDA-inspected facility for over 20 years. They provide top quality, innovative products and educate those invested in the well-being of animals about the benefits of a raw, all natural pet food diet. Brandscape + Brand Book The Ask A comprehensive Brandscape that outlines the current brand identity, analyzes the competitive landscape, and showcases key design inspiration and direction. This is paired with a detailed Brand Book, serving as a reference guide for maintaining consistency across all future design and branding efforts. Process I was provided with basic information about who the competitors were and categories to include on each board by the Strategy lead. In this project, I did a bit of the strategy work, which I thoroughly enjoyed and tied into my love of UI/UX Design. A brandscape is like it sounds—a branding landscape. We look at the overall industry space and find competitors that closely match the client. We do this to determine potential problems and solutions in the client's design and messaging. The elements of creating a brandscape include showing the current existing brand, the client's competitive landscape, and providing designer inspiration and direction. Mocking up the current brand was easy. Finding the competitor ads was challenging, but I was able to find them by doing a myriad of searches to get google to track my interests. (Let's just say I now get a LOT of ads for raw dog food in my social feeds!) I went to work on researching what I felt was working and not working for each competitor site from a design perspective. I then took the top two most successful raw dog food companies and compared their messaging and design to the current Oma's Pride brand. Taking all of the research and design work I did for the Brandboard, I created the Brand Book. The Oma's Pride Brand Book was created to determine the design and messaging for redesigning the UI for the Oma's Pride e-commerce website. Brandscape figma file Brand Book figma file The Result The Brandscape and Brand Book gave Oma's Pride a clear view of their competitive positioning and opportunities for improving their brand presence. By comparing top raw dog food brands and analyzing design and messaging, I helped refine Oma's Pride's branding to maintain their "mom and pop" feel while effectively communicating their values. She's always asking “How is the user going to interact with this product / website?”, “How should that impact it's design?” She pushes others to think this way as well. She gets the job done even under pressure, and consistently sees the bigger picture. ” — Colleen Luby , Vice President of Strategy at Kick Health Yeah, you're not going to read half of this. “Carey's eye for detail and design intellect helped raise the standard on many client deliverables. Always a student of the craft, Carey was quick to raise her hand to better understand a task and offer up creative solutions, all while learning new skills. She always brightened a room with her outgoing personality and loved working with the younger talent to help them grow as well. Carey would be a perfect addition to any creative team, big or small.” — Corey Hutchinson , Creative Director at Rebellion Group Sad, but true. “I've witnessed it first hand. The first time I saw it happen, I felt really bad for her. After around fifth time I had to walk away. Carey definitely spills a lot of coffee on herself.
